OG usernames for sale

OG usernames are short, rare or single-word handles: three and four letter Discord names, short Instagram and TikTok handles, dictionary-word X handles and rare Telegram names. Brands buy them to match their name across platforms, and collectors buy them because there are only so many short names to go around.

Most short Discord names were claimed during the 2023 switch to unique usernames, so the only way to get one now is to buy an account that already has it. The same is true of three letter Instagram and X handles.

How a username changes hands

There are two ways, and you should agree on one in the deal chat before you pay.

  • Account handover: the seller gives you the whole account with the name on it. This is the safest method for Discord, where a released name can be claimed by someone else within seconds.
  • Release and claim: the seller frees the name and you claim it on your own account at an agreed moment. This works on some platforms but carries a risk of someone else taking it first.

Instagram keeps a changed username reserved for the old account for 14 days, so a release on Instagram usually means waiting or handing over the account. Telegram collectible usernames are traded on Telegram's own Fragment platform, and X sells some inactive handles through its own marketplace.

What affects the price

  • Length: three characters beat four, and four beat five.
  • Letters only: names with letters only sell for more than names mixing letters and numbers.
  • Real words: dictionary words and common first names are worth the most.
  • Platform: the same name is worth different amounts on Discord, Instagram and X.

Buying safely

Keep the money in escrow until the username is on your account and you have changed the login details if the whole account was handed over. If the name is taken by someone else during a swap, do not confirm. Open a dispute and staff will review the chat.
